Police Corporal Marcus Hines says 53-year-old Angela Godley was found dead at around 3:15 Wednesday afternoon at a home in the 1900 block of Bayou Drive in Shreve Island.

She had been shot, but there's no word on how long her body had been in the home before a friend found her.

Neighbors remember her as a dog-lover, and police say several dogs she had rescued have been picked up by Caddo Animal Control.

No suspects have been named so far, but others in the neighborhood are saying the woman's spouse or boyfriend, who lives with her, hasn't returned to the home.  Cpl. Hines tells us he's identified as 58-year-old Mark Colby, but he's not been named as a suspect in Godley's death.

The murder has shaken up what is normally a nice, quiet area of town. A Shreve Island resident who wishes to remain anonymous tells us she had just met Godley last Friday.

"The other day, I was dog-sitting and my brother's dog got out, ran down the street. And I was chasing after him, holding my 18-month-old on my hip and running barefoot down the sidewalk after the dog," she said. "And here's this lady at the end of the street, and she's got the dog and she's holding him. She was just laughing and so friendly and sweet. And she gave me a leash to walk him home."

The neighbor told us she got a puppy the other day, and her plan after work yesterday was to go down to see Angela and show her the puppy. "I was gonna take a walk down and visit with her, get to know her a little better. I guess the universe had other plans."

She says this tragedy has left a lot of people worried, but it's also brought them together. "It's been hot, and so everybody's been inside their houses. And this kind of brought a lot of people out to check in on each other and to reach out to their neighbors," she said. "I have to say the energy in the community was very loving and friendly. I met a lot of neighbors I didn't know that I had yesterday. Everybody, I think, is kind of in shock, but at the same time it really showed me that we have a wonderful neighborhood and community here that is looking out for each other."
