Patrol officers arrived at a home in the 9200 block of Cade Drive at around 9:30 p.m. where they found a woman outside the house suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

The man who allegedly shot the woman was still inside the house and police found him armed with a shotgun. The suspect began to aim the weapon at the officers when two of the officers fired handguns, striking the suspect at least once in the upper body.

The Shreveport Fire Department transported the woman to LSU-Health where she underwent emergency surgery for what has been described as a potentially life-threatening injury.

Police say the alleged shooter died at the scene.

Investigators say the man and the woman had been romantically involved in the past. The man, who was armed with the shotgun, apparently forced his way into the home there on Cade Drive and shot the victim.

He then dragged the wounded woman into the front yard and returned inside where he ended up confronting police. There were three children in the home at the time of the first shooting but they were not injured.

Police  Chief  Willie Shaw has placed all three of the officers involved on paid administrative leave, which is departmental policy.

The chief himself, who was on scene last night, said:

This is a tragedy for all involved and our prayers are with the officers and the families of the victim and the deceased.

The names of the woman and her alleged shooter, who is  deceased, are not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. The names of the police officers involved are not being released at this time either.
