An accident involving a police cruiser just north of downtown Shreveport is under investigation.

Sgt. Bill Goodin with Shreveport police says a police car was attempting to stop a car that ran a red light, when a mini-van loaded with passengers crashed into the police cruiser.

The accident happened at Hwy. 71 and North Commons Street at around noon. Several passengers  in the mini-van were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Sgt. Goodin says the police car was running with lights flashing when the accident happened.

The investigation is on-going. Police are interviewing witnesses and they'll be viewing dashboard video of the crash. 

 The accident blocked two southbound lanes of North Market and one lane of North Commons Street, but traffic stilled flowed without any major problems.
