Dr. G.E. Ghali, Chancellor of LSU Health Shreveport and Dean of the School of Medicine, talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about Tuesday's healthcare "townhall meeting" that took place at the Schumpert Hospital building on Margaret Place.

The meeting was led by Louisiana's Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne, who reiterated that budget cuts to healthcare in the current versions of both the Senate and House versions of the state budget will wreak havoc on the state's safety net hospitals, specifically the facilities here in Shreveport.

Dr. Ghali tells KEEL listeners that "the Health Science Center is impacted by reductions in funding to higher education and healthcare services and any reduction to higher education and / or our local safety net hospital will mean decreased services being available." Ghali added that "full funding for higher ed and healthcare is critical to assure access for the vulnerable of our population."
