A Shreveport man is giving a bandaged thumbs up and thanking his luck that he wasn't hurt more seriously after a supposed gun cleaning went bad.

Just before midnight of July 30, 2016, Shreveport Police detectives were called to Willis-Knighton hospital’s south location after receiving information that a male patient arrived there suffering a gunshot wound to the hand. The man was identified as 26-year-old Stephen Cabrera of Shreveport.

According to investigators, Cabrera said that he was attempting to clean the gun when he somehow mishandled it. The gun discharged into Cabrera's hand. While his wound was minor, it did require medical attention.

Shreveport detectives say there is no evidence to suggest foul play, but the incident remains under investigation.
