A former staff member at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for mail fraud.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley says 69-year-old Anthony Roggero of Shreveport was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $200,000 to LSUHSC.

According to court information, Roggero had purchasing authority to buy up to $5,000 for reagents and supplies while he was LSUHSC's Human Leukocyte Antigen laboratory assistant director. He conspired with Sangre Biologicals owner Rita Myler to buy products from her company from at least June 2001 to July 2008.

Myler plead guilty to one count of mail fraud on October 7, 2014, and is set to be sentenced on January 26, 2015.
