A former employee of a private wastewater treatment plant has admitted to discharging pollutants into the Red River. 28-year-old Cody Tuma was plant operator in 2005 and night shift supervisor in 2006 at Arkla Disposal Services on Highway-1 south near the Port. The company had contracted to treat wastewater received from industrial processes and oilfield exploration and production facilities and then discharge the treated water either the City of Shreveport's water treatment plant or into river. Tuma's admitted in Shreveport Federal Court that he discharged untreated wastewater directly into the river without a permit. 53-year-old John Tuma still faces five counts of violating the clean water act, conspirace, and obstruction of justice relating to illegal discharges from the same facility. He's due to stand trial in a couple of weeks.s
