A year-long investigation conducted by Louisiana State Police Region II detectives, led to the arrest of a 59-year-old Shreveport man as a result of an on-line investigation. The investigation was conducted under the Louisiana State Police Operation Child Watch initiative, a joint multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional law enforcement operation targeting sexual predators that exploit and victimize children.

Investigators suspected child pornography was being downloaded to a computer located at the Shreveport residence of John M. Thomas (W/M, age 59). On August 13, 2010, troopers conducted a search warrant at his home and seized computers and electronic storage devices. The year-long investigation revealed the items seized, which belonged to Thomas, contained hundreds of images of child pornography that had been downloaded from the internet at his residence.

At the conclusion of the investigation an arrest warrant was issued for Thomas in Caddo Parish on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. On that same day, Thomas surrendered to troopers at the Shreveport Field Office where he was arrested and later transported to Caddo Correctional Center where he was booked on the charge of pornography involving juveniles.

The Louisiana State Police remains committed to investigating and arresting those who sexually exploit and victimize innocent children. Through Operation Child Watch, troopers will continue to work in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies to actively pursue child predators and ensure the safety of our children.
