Caddo sheriff's detectives have arrested a Shreveport man for a string of vehicle burglaries and thefts in north Caddo Parish.

Sheriff Steve Prator says 38-year-old Patrick Oneal Smith was arrested after a six-week investigation into a number of vehicle burglaries and thefts in the area surrounding Northwood High School and Indian Hills subdivision.

According to Detective Keith Fox, investigators got a break in the case when a suspect was captured on a resident's game camera. Detectives were able to identify him and link him to burglaries in which handguns, jewelry and over $3,000 cash were stolen.

Det. Fox arrested Smith on October 31, charging him with criminal trespass, attempted simple burglary, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, theft and simple burglary. He now faces additional charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and simple burglary.

The investigation continues and more charges are expected.
