A Shreveport man is behind bars after allegedly pointing a gun at a Shreveport police officer following a traffic accident.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 22, patrol officers were called to a hit-and-run accident in the 8200 block of Pines road. While officers were talking to the driver of the damaged vehicle, they saw what was believed to be the vehicle suspected of crashing into the car.

Patrol officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver kept going and attempted to elude police. He eventually lost control of the car and crashed in a parking lot nearby, then got out of the vehicle and ran off on foot.

As officers were closing in on him, the man pulled a firearm and pointed it at the officer, who wasn't hurt during the incident. Police say 29-year-old Charles Jones was eventually taken into custody with the help of a trained police K-9. The dog tracked Jones to an apartment building, where he was arrested without incident.

Authorities have located the firearm inside Jones' residence. He was taken to police headquarters and interviewed, then booked into the Shreveport City Jail for aggravated assault on a peace officer and aggravated flight in a vehicle.
