Local man’s charges are upgraded

A Shreveport man’s charges are upgraded after he was accused of severely injuring an infant early Saturday morning.
 Info from SPD:
At approximately 5:34 a.m. on February 21, 2015 Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to University Health in the 1500 block of Kings Highway relative to an infant there at the hospital being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries. Upon arrival, patrolmen learned the seven month old male victim had apparently sustained injuries indicative of some sort of criminal act or acts.

Detectives were immediately notified and, upon further investigation, discovered the child's mother allegedly left the victim in the care of her boyfriend, identified as 22 year old Anthony J. Oliver, last night at an apartment home in the 500 block of East Stoner Avenue before she went out for the evening. At approximately 1:50 a.m. on February 21, 2015, Oliver called the victim's mother and advised her the infant was not breathing. The Shreveport Fire Department was notified and transported the little boy to University Health. Based on information and evidence gathered during their ongoing inquiry, investigators believe Oliver injured the child in what they describe as a fit of rage. Oliver, of the 6300 block of Gilwood Circle in Shreveport, was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of second degree cruelty to a juvenile.

At approximately 8:11 a.m. on February 22, 2015, Shreveport Police Violent Crime investigators were notified by the Caddo Coroner’s Office, advising the seven month old infant was pronounced deceased by the medical staff at University Health earlier that morning. Authorities upgraded the charges on Oliver to second degree murder.
