A Shreveport firefighter is on paid leave after being arrested for domestic abuse. Shreveport Fire Chief Craig Mulford says 21-year-old Garnette Darby of Bossier City, a two-year veteran of the department, is accused of policy violations.

Shreveport police say Darby got into a dispute with his girlfriend, and allegedly forced her to the ground and started punching her. The woman says Darby also grabbed her by the throat and kicked her. She suffered minor injuries.

Domestic Violence detectives say evidence gathered during their investigation supports the victim's claims. Darby has been booked on one count each of domestic abuse battery with strangulation and criminal property damage.  He'll be on paid leave from the fire department until an internal investigation is complete.
