Some "cool" events for the Shreveport Fire Department's 12th Annual Open House...the weekend celebration will be held this Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This year, local businesses are lending their support by donating refreshments that will be served at each fire station in town. Officials from Willis-Knighton will also provide free health screenings Saturday from 10 to 1 at fire stations 8 and 13, while Shreveport firefighters and paramedics conduct equipment demonstrations and rescue techniques. Fair grounds field fire station number 8 will be the premier location for special events, including the department's Fire Safety House and mascot "Pluggie" -- and a special cooling effect mister and sprinkler system. If you go, you're encouraged to bring a non-perisable canned good to donate to the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank.
