Officials at Shreveport's Government Plaza are honoring the legacy of U.S. District Judge Tom Stagg. He died at his home Tuesday night at age 92.

"The city of Shreveport is deeply saddened at the loss of the Honorable Judge Tom Stagg," said Mayor Ollie Tyler in a news release. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many loved ones touched by his life. He was an exemplar citizen, leader and community servant."

City Attorney William Bradford also expressed his appreciation for Judge Stagg, calling him a "pillar of the legal community."

"His presence, professionalism and ethical consideration of legal issues were the model characteristics that all attorneys sought to reflect," Bradford said. "The legal community will miss him and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."

City Councilman Jeff Everson said Stagg leaves a legacy not only for his years of service, but also for his character, leadership and willingness to share his vast knowledge.

"We have lost a wealth of institutional legal knowledge that will be hard to replace in our community," he said. "Judge Stagg will be sorely missed."

Stagg's funeral is set for 10AM Saturday at St. John Berchman's Cathedral.
