A Memorial Day outing at the Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area in Benton has claimed the life of a 7-year-old Shreveport boy.

Bossier Parish sheriff's deputies say the boy was swimming with family and friends near the swimming area around the marina at Cypress Lake when they lost sight of him and began searching.  A number of others who were at the lake at the time formed an organized line to begin searching for the boy.  He was found and pulled from the lake.

Bossier Parish sheriff's deputies and an off-duty Shreveport paramedic began CPR on the child but were unable to resuscitate him.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boy's name is being withheld until all of his family members can be notified.
