The Louisiana Department of Health has confirmed 6 cases of Zika Virus in the state. Cccording to LDH Executive Director Doris Brown, all six cases were travel related and the infections did not originate in the state.

The virus can be transmitted through mosquitoes, blood transfusions and sexual contact. To help prevent spread of the virus, LDH Officials are meeting with Parish Mosquito Control officials to discuss the best ways to prevent cases of local transmission. There have been over 750 cases of Zika reported nationwide.
