Segment J of I-49 isn't the only northwest Louisiana project on the Department of Transportation and Development's list for the summer and fall. There are several other projects coming up for bids soon.

Department Spokeswoman Susan Stafford says one of the more costly is the I-20 Bridge and roadway replacement in Bossier Parish, from Westerfield to Industrial. Bids will be taken this fall, with an estimated price tag of $30- to $50-million.

Another big project for our area is the Youree Drive & Kings Highway intersection improvement, which is expected to cost between $5- and $7.5-million. Bids for that are being taken this summer.

A couple of bridge replacements are on the list, too -- LA 2 in Webster Parish, between Indian Creek & Thorny Branch, and U.S. 80 in Bienville Parish, at the KCS Railroad overpass near Ada. Those will be up for bids in the summer and fall, with costs bewteen $2.5- and $15-million.

Construction is underway on the I-49 North segment. The $49.4-million project will construct about 4.3 miles of interstate in Shreveport from Martin Luther King Boulevard to LA 1. That should be open by late summer or early fall. Funding was made possible through a house bill, plus Governor Jindal's capital outlay bill, which included $73-million to construct segments J and K.

Bids for the upcoming projects will be taken on DOTD's website.
