United States Senator Bill Cassidy talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright about his recent meeting with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the status of his Senate confirmation hearing.

Cassidy tells KEEL listeners, "There will absolutely be a vote on Brett Kavanaugh before the (mid-term) election!" The Senator continues, "He needs to be confirmed. But just look at the politics. There are ten Democratic Senators running for reelection in states that Trump won, three or four running in states that he won by double digits." Cassidy then explains that those Senator can vote to represent the wishes of their constituents, or "they can decide they want to vote with Chuck Schumer and hopefully they'll vote with the folks from their state."

The senior Senator also explains the recent 86-12 vote for a short-term extension of the National Flood Insurance Program. "It's good news for Louisiana, good news for our nation," he says, "Folks need to know they have protection. We need to get reforms through that continue to make the program more affordable and more accountable to taxpayers and this four month extension gives us the ability to do so."
