Saturday Is Drug Take-Back Day Across Louisiana

Law enforcement agencies across the state will be accepting your unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications tomorrow.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day features events across the country this weekend. The purpose is to provide "a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs" and to educate the public about dangers of abuse of these meds.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, more than 46,000 Americans die each year from drug-related deaths, and more than half of those are from heroin and prescription opioids. And the Drug Enforcement Administration reports that almost twice as many Americans abuse prescription medications that the number of those who use cocaine, hallucinogens, heroin and inhalants combined.

The Drug Take-Back events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30. Here are the local agencies participating:

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office -- Sheriff's Safety Town, 8910 Jewella Avenue

Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office -- Viking Drive Substation, 2510 Viking Drive

Louisiana State Police Troop G office -- 5300 Industrial Drive

Barksdale Air Force Base -- 455 Curtis Road

Just a reminder...you'll need to peel any labels off of your prescription bottles, and no injectables or needles will be accepted.
