Shreveport's Sam Burns was three holes down with only four to play, but the Calvary senior made up the deficit, only to fall to Ollie Schniedrjans on the second sudden death hole at the US Amateur golf tournament today in Atlanta.

The 18 year old Burns trailed the entire match against Schniederjans, the world's number one ranked amateur golfer, before squaring the match on the 17th hole. Burns birdie putt to win on the 18th just missed, sending the golfers to the playoff.

A Burns' bogey on the 20th hole gave the match to Schniederjans, who made par.

Burns, who entered the tournament as the USA's top junior golfer and the number 32 amateur, could move into the top 20 when new rankings are released next week.
