Good news for a local family. Haughton High School Football Coach Rodney Guin is expected to make a full recovery from a massive heart attack he suffered late last week.

His daughter Mallory Guin explained to KEEL's Robert & Erin how she felt when he opened his eyes for the first time after arriving at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

"We knew he was gonna wake up and we wanted to think he was still in there, but when they're asleep you don't know," she said. "When he opened his eyes and my mom and my sister and I were in there, it was just a blessing to see he was in there. And he squeezed our hands and he wiggled his toes and he could follow commands."

Is it possible the coach could be back on the football field next school year? Mallory said we'll just have to wait and see.

"As far as recovery, time is the best medicine right now. So we're just giving him some time to heal," Mallory said. "They really don't know a time frame right now. But as far as coaching goes, they hope that he's back out there as soon as he's better."

Mallory said her dad is a fighter and a very good man. And he's got a lot of community support, which has touched her family.

"We're just overwhelmed...with how loving everybody's been," she said. "The outpouring of love that the community has given us has been unreal."

Mallory shared this Facebook update late this morning:

BIG UPDATE: they are going to try and take dad off the ECMO machine this morning!! Please pray that there are no complications and that he stays stable! This is excellent news and as the nurse said "he's looking like a champ"!!
