Red River Yields Record Breaking Catfish

Okay, so it’s not our stretch of the river, but it’s the Red River, nonetheless. At the recent Red River Shootout noodling tournament in Oklahoma, Texan Eddie Drake grabbed an 81 pound catfish and set a new record in the process.

In grabbing the record flathead, Drake also received ten stitches to close a gash on his left ankle, and he’ll need about two weeks of medical treatment. All of it was worth it, however, as he gets not only the record, but the $5,225 first prize.

“This was the first tournament I’ve ever entered,” Drake said. “I was around last year but didn’t fish. I used it as a learning experience.”
