Red River Waterway Closure Costs Millions
The closure of the Red River Waterway is into the millions now.
The waterway was closed for 15 days due to a broken lock and dam system - the Lindy Claiborne Boges Lock and Dam. It's located at Mile 44 of the Red River near Marksville.
The Lock and Dam re-opened to shipping traffic March 17th and data has been collected from affected companies to determine the closure's impact.
Costs involve losing equipment availability, maintaining crew and cargo and tow rental costs. Shipping and user companies as well as Red River Waterway entities like the Port of Caddo-Bossier are all feeling the impact.
