Red Cross Website Helps Keep Families in Touch During Disasters
The American Red Cross has made it easier to keep track of family in disaster situations...through its "Safe & Well" website. After the 2005 hurricane season, the Red Cross developed the website to enable people within a disaster area to let their loved ones outside the affected region know of their well-being. They can register themselves as "safe and well" by selecting and posting messages for friends and family saying they're at a shelter, home or hotel, and will make contact when they're able. And those loved ones can search for the messages by those who self-register. The site has undergone a vast overhaul, though... it's been refined to allow Facebook and Twitter updates. Those who want to register just need to visit the Red Cross website.
