The principal of Sun City Elementary School has been charged with simple battery in connection with an incident that occurred earlier this week at the school. Bossier City police say 59-year-old Curtis Melancon is accused of placing an empty 32-gallon plastic trash can over a six-year-old kindergarten student after the boy was sent to his office. Police and the Bossier School Board are investigating. In the meantime, Superintendent D-C Machen says Melancon has been placed on administrative leave. Machen has released a statement saying that Melancon has been an outstanding principal and leader in the school system for 24 years and has had no past incidents like this during his tenure.
