Tragedy for the law enforcement community today. Two St. John the Baptist Parish deputies were shot and killed and two others were wounded in a shootout with some suspects.

Sheriff Mike Tregre called the incident an "ambush."  It happened while one deputy was working security at the Valero St. Charles Refinery.  One deputy was shot and wounded in a nearby parking lot and other officers tracked the shooter's car to a nearby mobile home park. They got one man in custody outside, but when others went to knock on the door of the mobile home, someone came out with an assault weapon and opened fire. Two deputies were killed. Two suspects were wounded before they were taken into custody.
