Friends and fans of Shreveport civil rights pioneer Dr. C.O. Simpkins have created a website and a petition to support his nomination for the Presidential Citizenship Medal. The Citizenship Medal is the second highest civilian award given by the United States.

Dr. Simpkins is being nominated in support of the major role he played in the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s. Details of Dr. Simpkins’ life and accomplishment can be found at cosimpkins.com.  Having this nomination would draw attention to the early role Dr. Simpkins played in our community and nation wide with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in civil rights and voter registration.
