All of the students at an area school are evacuated because smoke filled one part of the building.

All Third through fifth graders at North DeSoto Elementary were evacuated.

Firefighters and Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley rushed to the scene.

Brumley tells KEEL News shortly after 1 p.m. students were evacuated after smoke filled part of the building.

Fire crews discovered the source of smoke was a clothing dryer in the janitorial room. Crews were able to extinguish the smoke and a ventilation system was opened to air out the school.

Dr. Brumley sent me this message:

On site now. Staff noticed smoke. We evacuated students. Called emergency personnel. We located source as clothes dryer in janitors room (drying mopheads). Extinguished. Cleared smoke. Normal dismissal taking place.

Students were allowed back into the building to get their backpacks for a normal dismissal from school.
