Air Force officials say 1,372 Barksdale Air Force Base civilian workers will be getting furlough letters.

The Department of Defense will begin furloughing these workers on July 8th and these workers will be furloughed one day a week for 11 weeks.

In February, Minden Congressman John Fleming told KEEL News he expected Barksdale to see minimal impact from sequestration cuts.  Senator David Vitter and Congressman Bill Cassidy agreed, too.

In March, KEEL News learned about the cancellation of this year's Barksdale Air Force Base 2013 Defenders of Liberty Air Show because of budget issues.

Department officials say this will save $2.5 million at Barksdale and is part of $1.8 billion in Department of Defense savings.
