It's been a big day for the Bossier Sheriff's Office and Shreveport Police and Fire Departments, as they fanned out across town delivering toys for Operation Santa Claus.

Bossier sheriff's deputies gathered at the Viking Drive Substation at 9 this morning to prepare to make their toy drop-offs. The bizarre weather was a topic of conversation for Sheriff Julian Whittington.

"Even though it's 70 degrees outside, not very Christmassy, hopefully with Santa's presence and the help of our SROs and our Sheriff's Posse, we're going to deliver some cheer this morning," Sheriff Whittington said. "I think we're serving 183 children. We're very proud to be a part of this along with Shreveport fire and police and Townsquare Media."

The sheriff said it takes a lot of donations of money and new, unwrapped toys to make this work, and it's all been worthwhile.

"Every year for 31 years, we've been doing this. And I don't care how old you are or how long you've been doing it, any time you can take a bicycle to a child and see 'em smile, and get out there and ask, 'Is this for me?'...it never gets old," Whittington said.

Shreveport police officers and firefighters have been at the station today gathering up all the toys they'll be delivering in their areas.

Once again, we thank everyone who made a donation this year -- we couldn't do this without your help! Merry Christmas to you all!
