It's that time of the year again when you can enroll, or renew your membership, in the Shreveport Fire Department's EMS LifeCare Program.

For just $35 per year, you or any member of your family living under your roof is protected from the high cost of emergency ambulance service.  EMS LifeCare picks up any portion of your ambulance bill not covered by your medical insurance, as long as that ambulance service is provided by the Shreveport Fire Department.

You don't have to live within the Shreveport city limits to be covered by EMS LifeCare. You can even live in some other city or state.  But it only covers emergency ambulance service provided by the Shreveport Fire Department within the Shreveport city limits. Records are kept electronically so you don't have to worry about carrying a membership card.

The open enrollment/renewal period for EMS LifeCare runs until May 31st.  Once you're a member of EMS LifeCare, you do have to renew each year for another $35.  But that's about the cheapest insurance subsidy you're going to find anywhere -- especially when it covers your whole family.

You can get more information about the program, and get signed up, by going to the Shreveport Fire Department's website.  Once there, click on Divisions>Emergency Medical Services>EMS Lifecare
