[UPDATE] The search has resumed for a man missing in the Red River after he jumped from a bridge.

Caddo sheriff's deputies say a group of four men were on the sandbar south of the railroad bridge near Stoner Avenue, when two of the men decided to jump off the bridge.

Deputies and firefighters from the Caddo and Bossier Sheriff's Offices and Shreveport and Bossier City Fire Departments searched for the man until after midnight, but couldn't locate him. The search is back underway.

The missing man has been identified as 22-year-old Desmond Desdunes of Shreveport.

[ORIGINAL STORY] The search continues today for a National Guardsman who jumped from a railroad trestle into the Red River.

Shreveport police tell KEEL News that at around 9:00 last night, they got a call that two men had jumped from the trestle in the 1400 block of Clyde Fant Parkway, near Veteran's Park. These weren't suicide attempts, but more like a dare. One of the men landed in the water and swam to the bank. The other started struggling, went underwater and didn't come back up.

Firefighters sent out a rescue boat, but were unable to locate the man. They'll be back out during daylight hours to search again. Police say the man who made it to shore is obviously upset that his friend is still missing, but is otherwise O.K.
