Abortions in the Bayou State have dropped by 4-percent from 2015 to 2016. The State Department of Health released the latest data.
Ben Clapper with Louisiana Right to Life says this is the second year in a row that abortion numbers have dropped in the state.

There were 8,972 abortions performed in Louisiana in 2016, down from 9,362 abortions reported in 2015 and 10,211 abortions reported in 2014. The number of abortions performed in the state had increased steadily from 2008-2014 as population numbers returned to pre-Katrina levels. Clapper credits the decrease to more people valuing the life of an unborn child.

Caddo Parish is easily the number 1 Parish for abortions in the state.

The numbers show women listed as “nonwhite” accounted for 70-percent of abortions performed last year in Louisiana. Clapper says many women who had abortions last year were unmarried and 35 girls under the age of 15 had an abortion.

SEE ABORTION CLINIC NUMBERS

The Bossier City Clinic has since closed and The Advocate of Baton Rouge reports there are only 3 clinics still operating in the state, including the Hope Medical Group in Shreveport. The Health Department has more info about the 3 clinics.

Last year, the LA Times did a report on what they called "an abortion crisis" in Louisiana. The story talks about the struggles of Hope Medical Group to keep the doors open in light of the new law that requires doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.

We have not been able to get a comment on these numbers from Planned Parenthood or the Center for Reproductive Rights.
