NATCHITOCHES – Three Northwestern State University students, Michael Herren, Joey Vercher and Ana Garcia Pascual, have been named finalists in the 32nd annual Photographer’s Forum magazine photography competition for high school and college students. All three were students in Professor Michael Yankowski’s Fall 2011 photography class.

Vercher, a business major from Derry, submitted a still life photo of a lemon. Pascual is a foreign exchange student from Nigran, Spain. Her photo is an image of a one-way traffic sign. Herren, an art major from Bossier City, earned Honorable Mention for a photograph taken after a snowfall in Natchitoches.

The annual Photographer’s Forum competition, sponsored by Nikon and Photographer’s Forum magazine, was juried by three professional photographers/professors. College and high school students from the United States and Canada submitted over 17,600 photographs with only 10 percent selected for publication.

The photos will be included in the hard cover volume of Best of College and High School Photography 2012. Selected as finalists, the students are eligible for over $8,000 in prizes. To view a winner’s gallery, visit pfmagazine.com.
