Northwest Louisiana now has fifteen new law enforcement officers.  Today was graduation day for Class 011 of the North Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy.

Fifteen recruits are now P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified.  Eleven of them are with the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office, two with the Office of Juvenile Justice in Shreveport, and one each from the Minden and Springhill Police Departments.

The new deputies and officers have just wrapped up nearly 12 weeks of training that began February 21st. During that time they learned officer survival skills, legal issues, weapons qualifications, physical fitness, chemical weapons, and a whole lot more.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington and State Representative Jeff Thompson both addressed the graduates at today's ceremony, during which three of the new Bossier Deputies received awards.  Deputy Jared Vicento received both the honor graduate and firearms proficiency awards; Deputy Blake Smith received the academic award; and Deputy Steven George Davenport received the physical fitness award.
