Reacting to the recent horror or the recent terror attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, organizers at the upcoming Gay Pride festival in New Orleans have announced that are, for all intents and purposes, doubling security.

Officials of the event say they've been working closely with both city and private security experts to make certain that the event goes off without incident. But they also ask those planning to attend to be aware of their surroundings and report anything that seems out of the ordinary or suspicious.

In an attempt to add additional security, many bars and business will not allow patron to enter with backpacks or large purses.

In addition, many local businesses are hiring extra security in an attempt to assuage fears of their customers and festival goers.

This year's New Orleans Gay Pride Festival begins Friday, June 17 and continues through Sunday, June 20.
