The National Football League announced Monday that quarterback Tom Brady has been suspended without pay for four games for violating the league's policy on the "integrity of the game." In addition, he team will also be fined $1 million and will forfeit their first round draft pick in 2016 and the fourth-round selection in 2017.

The punishment comes just days after independent investigator Ted Wells found that it was "more probable than not" that Brady was "at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities" regarding the deflation of Patriots game balls used in the AFC Championship Game against Indianapolis. In the Wells report, it was also stated that there was no definitive proof of Brady's guilt.

The league also made clear that Brady's lack of cooperation with Wells investigation was a factor in the punishment.

Brady, through the NFL Players Association, is expected to appeal the punishment.
