A new program launched in Shreveport today -- under the auspices of the United Way of Northwest Louisiana. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a program that supports early childhood literacy and fosters a love of reading in pre-school children. Under the program, children from birth to age five are mailed a brand new book every month and their parents are urged to read it to them. The United Way's Erin Pyles says the program has been established in the Brown E. Moore Headstart Center to serve children in the 71106 zip code. It will also be introduced in two other zip code areas in Shreveport and in the Plain Dealing area.
