With a vote of 15-5, the House Appropriations Committee advanced HB 74 Monday with an amendment that require the state to cut the contract budget by approximately $183 million.

The Louisiana House will now consider the bill that could potentially save the state all that money and fully fund TOPS.

Rep. Jerome Richard from Thibodaux introduced the bill and said its time the state put some money where its mouth is. As part of his presentation, he listed 30 state contracts he believed could be cut or reduced. However, Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says the amount of cuts proposed is impossible to pull off.
