Metropolitan Planning Commission member Ronnie Remedies talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL about the growing controversy regarding the contract renewal of MPC Director Mark Sweeney.

Remedies tells KEEL listeners that a number of commissioners have tried to get the topic of Sweeney's contract on the commission itinerary for the past three months, but Chairman Theron Jackson has ignored those requests, in what Remedies says "is a blatant disregard of the law."

Remedies says, "This is the fourth or fifth time we've tried to have items placed on the agenda and , depending on whether he agrees with them or not, he (Jackson) will block them from being placed on the agenda.

Sweeney, whose contract will be automatically renewed July 1, is backed by Chairman Jackson and a one group of commissioners. Remedies and a number of others oppose his rehiring as director.
