State health officials say three more cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in Louisiana during the past week.  

All three were West Nile fever cases and there was one each in Ascension, Lafayette, and Ouachita Parishes.

So far this year, there have been 58 cases of West Nile virus reported in Louisiana.  Of those, 34 were the most-serious neuroinvasive disease, 20 were West Nile fever, and 4 were asymptomatic. Four people have died this year from the West Nile virus.

The 34 neuroinvasive disease cases this year were in Ouachita, Lafayette, Rapides, Caldwill, Acadia, Calcasieu, Livingston, and St. Tammany Parishes. Ouachita leads the list with 14 cases confirmed.  Last year there were 160 cases of neuroinvasive disease statewide.
