The Department of Health and Hospitals is reporting 24 new cases of West Nile Virus infection this week -- but no additional deaths. Ten of the new infections were the most serious -- neuro-invasive cases and four of those were right here in Caddo Parish. The others were in Desoto, Orleans, Ouachita, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Webster parishes. There were three cases of West Nile fever in Bossier parish, 2 each in Caddo and Rapides, and 1 each in Iberville, Ouachita, and St. Tammany. Three asymptomatic cases were diagnosed -- one each in Caddo, Point Coupee, and West Baton Rouge parishes. As a result of today's rain, there's a lot of standing water around our homes and businesses. And health officials are urging you to drain it as quickly as possible because that's where mosquitoes breed and mosquitoes spread West Nile.
