Minden Woman Dies in I-20 Crash

State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 20 just east of Louisiana Highway 151 that left a Minden woman dead.

A 2006 Toyota Avalon driven by 66-year-old Gregory Smotherman of Minden was headed east on I-20 when Smotherman lost control and the car went down an embankment, and crashed into some trees.

Smotherman had a seatbelt on and he suffered moderate injuries, but his passenger 56-year-old Bronwyn Smotherman who was also buckled up, didn’t survive the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner.

A toxicology sample was obtained from Smotherman, but troopers do not suspect impairment.
