Congressman Mike Johnson talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the announced retirement of Speaker Paul Ryan and whether he thinks Louisiana's Steve Scalise or Kevin McCarthy of California is early favorite for the job.

Johnson confirms reports from the nation's capitol that Scalise, a longtime friend and ally of McCarty, will not seek the Speaker's office if McCarthy wants the soon-to-be-vacated position. McCarthy, however, is considered to be not conservative enough for many House Republicans and, if Scalise opts out, stories persist that another, more right leaning candidate may emerge to challenge for the lower chamber's top position.
