Michael Phelps has managed to swim into history.
Phelps set the record for most Olympic medals won by an individual when he picked up his 19th on Tuesday by leading the US to a gold in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay in London.
It was the first gold medal of these Games for Phelps.
Phelps has now earned 19 medals, spanning three different Games. Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina won 18 medals over the course of the Olympics in 1956, 1960 and 1964.
In his career, Phelps has collected 15 gold medals, a pair of silvers and two bronzes.
