Authorities will be closing several streets tomorrow in Shreveport’s Highland neighborhood tomorrow morning as they work to help honor the memory of Chief Petty Officer Robert James Reeves.

A memorial service honoring Chief Petty Officer Reeves will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral on Saturday, August 13, 2011 and law enforcement officials will be closing several streets adjacent to the church to facilitate the safe travel of those persons attending. At 9:30 a.m. traffic officers will close Fairfield Avenue from Kings Highway to Wilkinson as well as Thornhill Avenue from Kings Highway to Wilkinson Street.  Wilkinson Street from Fairfield Avenue to Thornhill Avenue will be closed as well as Kirby Place, Columbia Street and Rutherford Street from Fairfield Avenue to Thornhill Avenue. Kings Highway will remain open to through traffic.The affected streets will be closed to through traffic and open only to those attending the service. Police anticipate the roads will remain closed until 1:00 p.m.

Parking will be available at St. Marks and the Kings Highway Christian Church located just down the street at the intersection of Line Avenue and Kings Highway. Officers will be assigned at intersections in the area to help with the traffic flow. There will be a specified media area set up on the parking lot of the Edge Physical Therapy building located at 2950 Fairfield Avenue directly across from the cathedral.
