LSU has hired Wisconsin’s Dave Aranda as defensive coordinator, the Tigers' athletic department announced Friday night. He's replacing the outgoing Kevin Steele.

LSU announced the hiring of the 38-year-old west coast native just days after Steele left to take the same position at Auburn.

Aranda has led the Badgers defense for the last three seasons. This year Wisconsin finished the regular season as the top defense in Division I, allowing only 13.7 points per game. In his three years in Madison, Aranda’s units have ranked seventh in 2013, fourth in 2014 and third this year in total defense.

Terms of Aranda’s contract were not disclosed. At Wisconsin, his annual salary was $520,000. Steele was making $1 million a year, but owes the school a buyout of at least $500,000 for leaving in the middle of his contract.
