Tragedy near a Marine Corps Base where my oldest son is stationed.

A spokesman for Marine Corps Base Hawaii has confirmed to The Honolulu Star Advertiser that a Marine died early Saturday morning after the boat he was in capsized in waters near the base.

Marines stationed at Kaneohe often enjoy the beaches and waters along the north shore of Oahu.

The  paper reports the 17-foot boat overturned with three Marines onboard. Two of the men were able to swim back to shore and call for help.

Marine Corps spokesman Chuck Little has issued a statement:

"The man is an active duty Marine stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. We will not release his name until next of kin have been properly notified."

The Star Advertiser reports the Marine was found unconscious under 30 feet of water. He wasn't breathing and had no pulse.

My heart is breaking today for the families that will get this horrifying call. I've gotten to know several of my son's buddies and hope they are all ok.

Please keep the Marine Corps family in Hawaii in your prayers.
