A man wanted for at least two car break-ins and a shooting is now in police custody. And all it took was a traffic stop. Patrol officers stopped 22-year-old Ronnie Reddix in the 2700 block of Malcom Street. That's when they found what they believed to be stolen items -- including a woman's purse -- inside the car. Investigators believed Reddix was responsible for several car burglaries, so they took him in for questioning.

After digging a little further, they found out that violent crimes detectives had been searching for Reddix for allegedly shooting 31-year-old Melvin Patterson in late May in the 1500 block of Belwood Street while the two men were arguing over a dog.

Reddix has been charged with two counts each of simple burglary and illegally possessing stolen things -- drug possession -- and illegal use of a weapon for the shooting. Additional charges are possible as police continue their investigation.
