Shreveport police have arrested a local man in connection with a weekend shooting that left another man wounded.

The shooting was reported shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of East 76th Street. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Latroy White, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm. He was taken by private vehicle to University Health before police arrived at the scene.

During their investigation, detectives found that White was struck while riding inside a vehicle that was allegedly involved in an exchange of gunfire with two other vehicles as they drove along a stretch of St. Vincent Avenue. At some point, the weapon believed to have been used was dropped from one of the vehicles.

Additional information was gathered suggesting the weapon, a semi-automatic rifle, was picked up from the road by a man identified as 28-year-old Donovan Samuel. Police located him at his home in the 200 block of West 74th Street, and a search warrant was executed at the house.

Inside, police found several high-powered rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and body armor. Samuel is charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful use of body armor by a convicted felon. He has not been charged with shooting White. Police say the search for that suspect is still underway.
